About Petit Palais
The Petit Palais was built for
the Exposition Universelle, World Fair of Paris,
1900, by architect Charles Girault who had to
work hard to create something that wasn’t
overshadowed by its neighbour, the Grand
Palais.
It is located between Champs-Elysees
and Avenue Alexandre III. and today serves as
a museum.
The majority of the collection
is a legacy to Auguste Dutuit (an art collector
from Rouen), including ancient medieval artifacts
and Dutch paintings, but it contains other works,
such as paintings by the Impressionists, and more
contributions from the American diplomat, Edward
Tuck. There are more than 45,000 works in total. |
